Jamestown leaders: There’s a better way to manage local cats!

Jamestown is relying on inefficient and expensive methods to manage feral cats. “Catch and kill” may seem like it’s working in the short run, but trap-neuter-vaccinate-return (“TNVR”) is a more cost-effective and lasting way to reduce these cat populations over time.

Spaying/neutering and vaccinating unowned cats also creates an opportunity for them to become “working cats” on local farms and ranches, providing a great resource to the community at large. TNVR is proven to reduce nuisance behaviors by cats in the community, too, meaning less calls to animal control.

It’s time to try something new, Jamestown. Please add your name to show Jamestown leaders that there’s a better way to manage unowned cats!

Why is this important?

Best Friends Animal Society has offered to support them in closing the cat gap of cats being killed at the City of Jamestown to achieve a save rate of 90% or higher at no cost to taxpayers.
Local leaders need to hear that the issue is important to Jamestown residents and that helping cats will help the community at large. The more signatures we can show them, the more likely they are to consider this change.

JAN 2026 UPDATE - We’ve reached out to Jamestown city officials and shelter leadership to let them know that Best Friends’ offer of support is still on the table, but we have not yet received a response.

You can help keep this conversation moving forward by contacting your elected officials and letting them know that community cats matter to you: https://www.jamestownnd.gov/201/Meet-the-Council
